Trekking Cefalù - Etna 6 days

Trekking that allows us to cross the whole of north-eastern Sicily (the so-called Val Demone) through the four parks of Madonie, Nebrodi, Alcantara and Etna.

Stage 1 (Luogo Marchese – Casalvecchio); riding time: 7 hours
Horse and saddle assignment. Departure at approximately 9:00 a.m. from Tenuta Luogo Marchese, a ring road from the countryside surrounding Castelbuono, a charming medieval town rich in history and traditions.

We ascend through Sicily's largest cork oak forest to Geraci, a mountain town (about a thousand meters above sea level) famous for its castle and mineral water.

After a short refreshment stop, we set off again through the woods and ancient, half-abandoned trails, arriving in the afternoon.

Stage 3 (La Sugarita – Rifugio del Parco); riding time: 8 hours
This stage enters the heart of the Nebrodi Park, following the famous "Dorsale," a long dirt road through woods and high mountain pastures.

A place rich in charm and extraordinary views, looking north over the Tyrrhenian Sea with a splendid view of the Aeolian Islands, and south over the Sicilian hinterland of the provinces of Enna, Caltanissetta, Agrigento, Syracuse, Catania, and Mount Etna, towering above all.

We enter through beech forests into the San Fratello area, famous for its Sanfratellani horses, a strong and resilient native breed with large heads, whose horses can be seen grazing in the wild. A picnic lunch will be served in a small clearing shaded by centuries-old trees near a water spring (Nocita).

Arrival is scheduled for the afternoon at the hotel.

Stage IV (Rifugio del Parco – Monte Colla); hours on horseback: 8
This is probably the most beautiful stage, winding for more than 40 kilometers along the "Nebrodi ridge," through mountains, forests, and lakes, in a landscape of astonishing beauty. You immediately encounter Lake Maulazzo, overlooked by Mount Soro, the highest peak of the Nebrodi (1,847 meters), covered in magnificent beech forests, then the famous Lake Biviere di Cesarò, a resting place for migratory fauna.

We continue along the "ridge," where lush forests alternate with panoramic clearings, from which you can see the Aeolian Islands to the north and the imposing peak of Mount Etna to the south. In the evening, tired but satisfied, we arrive at

Stage VI (San Marco – Etna Nord); hours on horseback: 7
After crossing a rich and picturesque agricultural area characterized by its crops of Peaches, almonds, olive trees, vineyards, and dry-stone walls made of lava, we enter the Etna Park, where, amidst more or less recent lava flows, we pass through fantastic forests of pine, oak, and chestnut trees, volcanic caves, and breathtaking views of the mountains of Sicily and Calabria. We arrive at the "Ragabo" pine forest at about 1,500 meters.

There, we stop for lunch and then continue climbing through the pine forest to Piano Provenzano (about 1,800 meters). Depending on the season, weather, and volcanic conditions, we continue climbing to the craters of the great 2002 eruption.

At the end of the last day, we'll take you back down to the agriturismo for the second evening.
