The residential week we offer is an unforgettable experience that combines the pleasure of horseback riding with the discovery of an area surprisingly rich in natural, historical, cultural, and culinary treasures.
Our guests can choose between two high-quality accommodations, nestled in the lush landscape of the Lower Madonie Mountains, based on their preferences:
– Tenuta Luogo Marchese, a farmhouse with about twenty rooms, a restaurant, a swimming pool, and a large surrounding area perfect for all kinds of outdoor activities.
This 17th-century noble farmhouse once belonged to the baronial Ventimiglia family. It was later abandoned and used by local shepherds until the early 1980s, when it was renovated and transformed into one of the most beautiful and scenic farmhouses in Sicily.
– Abbazia Santa Anastasia, a 5-star Relais within a prestigious and renowned winery, featuring about twenty comfortable rooms, a swimming pool, and a wellness center.
The company was founded in the 1980s, when vineyards were planted in a previously uncultivated area, and was one of the first in the world to produce organic wines using modern technologies.
The Relais where our guests stay is a charming and elegant property housed in a renovated 11th-century Benedictine abbey.
DATES: All year round
Day One
Transfer from Palermo airport to Tenuta Luogo Marchese or Abbazia Santa Anastasia (included in the price) and dinner.
Day Two: Castelbuono; 3 hours on horseback
8:30 AM: Meet at the stables.
The tour begins with an interesting walk among olive groves, cork oaks, Mediterranean scrub, and other species typical of the Madonie countryside. After crossing the riverbed, rich in water in winter and spring but almost always dry in summer, we arrive in Castelbuono, opposite the castle.
The medieval town, known as the residence of the Ventimiglia barons, still preserves its ancient artisanal traditions. Once in town, you'll have free time to relax and enjoy typical regional products such as manna (ash sap), cheeses, and traditional sweets. Guests can also take a guided tour of the castle (admission €4 per person).
Day Three: Tiberio Gorges; Hours on horseback: 6
8:30 AM, meet at the stables.
An adventure that takes us along the wild and steep banks of the Pollina River in the territory of San Mauro Castelverde, known for its stories of bandits who once plagued the area, to the gorges, known in dialect as "Miricu," a highly evocative and magical place where you can descend into the gorge by canoe.
Day Four: Gibilmanna; Hours on horseback: 6
8:30 AM, meet at the stables.
We ride through dense forests of cork oaks and holm oaks until we reach the Sanctuary of Gibilmanna (about 800 meters above sea level). We visit the church that houses the famous Virgin of Gagini and have free time to rest. The trail continues with many points of interest and beautiful landscapes.
Day Five and Six: Trekking in the high Madonie Mountains; Hours of riding: 15 (over two days)
Meet at the stables at 8:30 AM.
This is a breathtaking two-day adventure that takes us through the woods of the Madonie Natural Park, home to high peaks reaching an altitude of almost 2,000 meters. The area is home to a wide variety of animal species, such as deer and wild boar, as well as endemic plant species such as the Nebrodi pine and the giant holly.
The excursion is truly captivating and allows you to enjoy the unique scenery, breathe in the fresh air, drink water from mountain springs, and listen to the sounds of the forest.
This tour requires riders to have extensive long-distance riding experience and good physical endurance. Since the route is primarily on high mountain trails, this tour may be subject to change due to weather or obstacles along the way.
Overnight stay in a mountain hotel.
At the end of the second day, return to Luogo Marchese or the Abbey of Santa Anastasia, for dinner and an overnight stay.
Seventh day, Sant'Ambrogio; Hours on horseback: 6
8:30 am, meet at the stables.
This morning, we'll ride through meadows, oak forests, and Mediterranean scrub until we reach Sant'Ambrogio, a characteristic village overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. We'll continue the tour along a path almost overlooking the sea, passing through fields of olive trees, citrus trees, and forests of cork oaks and holm oaks. Lunch at a seaside restaurant is an option, depending on the client's preferences. In spring and autumn, when the beach isn't too crowded, swimming in the sea with the horses is also possible, but of course, it also depends on the weather and sea conditions! The months when this is possible are April, May, June, September, October, and early November.
Eighth day
Breakfast and transfer from Tenuta Luogo Marchese or Abbazia Santa Anastasia to Palermo airport (included in the price).
